A hose clamp's design allows it to secure a hose over a fitting, thereby preventing any fluid flowing through the hose from leaking at the connection. Common uses for hose clamps include securing hoses in automotive systems and for clamping lines in household plumbing systems. Hose clamps also work well in other situations where a user desires a strong band clamp, like applications where a zip tie or duct tape might be used.
Step 1
Expand the hose clamp by turning the screw counterclockwise. Make it large enough to slide over the hose.
Step 2
Slide the hose clamp over the hose.
Step 3
Slide the hose over the fitting that you want it to attach to.
Step 4
Slide the hose clamp over the joint between the fitting and the hose.
Turn the screw clockwise to contract the hose clamp around the hose to the required tension.

Tips
- When expanding the hose clamp, if you keep turning the screwdriver counterclockwise eventually the clamp opens completely. This allows you to wrap it around hoses or other items without having to slide it over the end. When you're ready to clamp, push the band's end back into the slot it came out of and turn the screw clockwise.
